Artificial intelligence can now sing, arrange, and produce songs in almost any style imaginable. But there’s one question that still sparks debate among musicians and listeners alike:
Can an AI performance truly capture the emotion of a human-written song?
That question is at the heart of “No More – Soul/Funk Vibe 1.” This isn’t a song written by AI. Every lyric, melody, and musical idea was written by me, Greg Kocis. The performance, however, is generated by AI as part of an ongoing experiment to explore how technology can reinterpret human creativity.
Rather than replacing the songwriter, this project asks a different question: What happens when the performer changes, but the song stays the same?

A Human Song, Reimagined
Songwriters have always imagined their songs being interpreted by different artists. One singer might turn a ballad into a rock anthem. Another might transform the same song into jazz, country, or soul.
AI introduces a new kind of performer into that tradition.
For “No More – Soul/Funk Vibe 1,” I wanted to hear how an AI performance would reshape a song originally written by a human. The lyrics remain unchanged. The melody remains recognizable. Yet the groove, vocal delivery, and overall feel become something entirely different.
The result isn’t meant to replace the original version. Instead, it’s another interpretation of the same musical story.
Comparing Two Versions
One of the most interesting aspects of this project is comparing the AI performance with the original production demo.
The original demo features vocalist Liel Bar-Z, whose human performance brings its own personality and emotional interpretation to the song. Every phrase, breath, and subtle vocal choice reflects the instincts of a real singer.
The AI version approaches those same words and melodies differently. Sometimes the emotion feels surprisingly convincing. Other moments may sound more polished than personal—or perhaps you’ll hear something completely different.
That’s exactly what makes this experiment worth exploring.

The Bigger Conversation About AI Music
Much of the discussion around AI music focuses on whether AI is replacing artists.
I’m more interested in a different conversation.
What if AI becomes another creative tool—similar to a synthesizer, sampler, or virtual instrument? What if it gives songwriters new ways to hear ideas they might never have imagined otherwise?
Projects like this aren’t about proving AI is better than humans.
They’re about exploring what happens when human creativity meets new technology.
The songwriting still begins with a person.
The performance simply takes a different path.
You Decide
Music is ultimately personal.
Some listeners may prefer the warmth and imperfections of a human vocal performance. Others may enjoy hearing how AI transforms familiar songwriting into something fresh.
Neither reaction is wrong.
That’s why I’d love to hear your opinion after listening to “No More – Soul/Funk Vibe 1.”
- Does the AI performance communicate genuine emotion?
- Does knowing the song was written by a human change how you hear it?
- Which version speaks to you more—the original production demo or the AI interpretation?
There isn’t a right answer.
That’s the conversation.
