Black Salt Audio Low Control: Free Plugin for a Limited Time

If you’re looking for a way to tighten up your bass, control muddy low frequencies, and get more presence out of your kick drums, Black Salt Audio Low Control is worth checking out.

Low Control is currently available FREE for a limited time, and it combines dedicated low-frequency compression with harmonic enhancement in one plugin.

Watch the video below to see how it works and hear it in action on bass guitar, synth bass, and kick drums.

What Is Black Salt Audio Low Control?

Low Control is designed to give you more control over the low frequencies in your mix without necessarily affecting the entire signal.

The plugin is divided into two main sections: Control and Enhance.

Rather than relying on a traditional full-band compressor or EQ, Low Control lets you focus specifically on the low-frequency range that needs attention.

The Control Section

The Control section features a dedicated low-frequency compressor.

You can adjust the threshold to determine how much compression is applied, while the frequency control determines which part of the low end is being processed.

This allows you to tighten up bass frequencies without applying the same compression to the higher frequencies in your signal.

There’s also a low-end gain control that lets you bring some of those controlled frequencies back into the mix.

This is particularly useful when you’re trying to get a more consistent bass sound without losing all the weight and power.

The Enhance Section

The Enhance section takes a different approach.

Instead of simply controlling existing frequencies, it adds harmonic content to the low end, helping bass sounds become fuller and more pronounced.

This can be especially useful with sub-bass sounds that don’t translate very well on smaller speakers.

There’s also a Solo Low mode, which lets you listen specifically to the frequencies you’re processing. This makes it easier to hear exactly what you’re changing as you adjust the controls.

Built-In Presets and Real-World Examples

Low Control also includes several presets to help you get started with different sources and mixing situations.

Some of the examples include:

  • Beefy Toms
  • Controlled and Enhance
  • EDM Kick for Small Speakers
  • Even Out the Bass

In the video, I demonstrate the plugin using several different instruments.

I start with a bass guitar, using the Even Out the Bass preset and experimenting with more aggressive compression. I also demonstrate Solo Low mode and the Enhance section.

Next, I try it on a synth bass to hear how it affects the low frequencies, followed by a kick drum using the harmonic enhancer.

One thing worth pointing out is that Low Control isn’t limited to bass guitar and kick drums. It can also be useful on guitars, pianos, and other instruments where you want to manage or enhance the low-frequency content.

Is Black Salt Audio Low Control Worth Trying?

Low Control combines two useful approaches to low-frequency processing in one plugin.

The Control section gives you dedicated low-end compression, while Enhance adds harmonic content to help bass sounds translate better and become more noticeable in a mix.

If you’re regularly working with bass guitars, synth bass, kick drums, or other instruments that need some additional low-end attention, it’s worth adding to your plugin collection.
